Rumor has it that veteran group Xscape is breaking up after a member has distanced herself over a dispute, according to reports.
The Who Can I Run To? R&B group, consisting of Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, LaTocha and Tamika Scott made headlines after 49-year-old LaTocha didn’t appear in a poster promoting their new tour.
Sources told TMZ that despite LaTocha not being present in the poster, she is still a member of the group but has distanced herself because of a disagreement with one of the tour’s promoters and bandmates.
All of this brouhaha comes on the heels of a new reality show featuring the girl group. Set to release in March, the show will walk viewers through how the group sparked a tumultuous conflict after they chose a tour promoter who had beef with LaTocha’s husband. After LaTocha requested that they find a new promoter, the remaining members chose to keep him, causing her to distance herself. The group also repudiated her request to change the name of the group since she threatened not to join them on tour.
Years ago, the group briefly changed their name to Xscape 3 after Kandi took a break from the group. She has since rejoined them.
It is unclear whether LaTocha will appear on the upcoming Soul Train Awards next weekend where they are expected to receive the Lady of Soul Award. They are the second group in the award show’s history to receive the award. SWV won the award in 2017.
“Given how important Soul Train is to all of us, we’re so thankful to be honored with the ‘Lady of Soul’ Award this year,” the group said in a statement. “It’s going to be an amazing night, and we can’t wait to see you all there.”
Their new reality show will also feature R&B trio SWV and is set to be named XSCAPE/SWV. The show will air on Bravo in Spring 2023.
