Nene Leakes Sparks Controversy With Unexpected Move: From ‘Real Housewives’ Royalty to ‘Baddies East’ on Zeus Network

Nene Leakes, the former star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” is set to return to reality television, but not in the way many fans expected.

The reality TV veteran will co-host the reunion show for “Baddies East” on the Zeus Network, alongside Janeisha John from “Joseline’s Cabaret: Miami.”

Leakes, who left “RHOA” in 2020, shared the news on Instagram, expressing excitement about keeping the “baddies on point.”

However, the announcement garnered mixed reactions from fans. Some applauded her for securing another gig, while others believed it was beneath her stature. Some analysts even feel Leakes seem desperate for a comeback.

“A check is a check but this is BENEATH you, girl,” wrote a fan in the post’s comments.

But another fan described the move as a fall from grace.

The two-time Broadway actress joined “RHOA” in 2008 and departed in 2020, receiving a reported $2.85 million for her final season.

Leakes, however, felt the offer was unfair and had publicized conflicts with executive producer Andy Cohen. Despite rumors of a possible return to Bravo, Leakes criticized the network for alleged preferential treatment of white housewives.

Leakes’ recent gig on Zeus Network comes amid financial challenges, including the closure of her retail shop, Swagg Boutique, and Linnethia Lounge.

Critics speculate that her move to Zeus signifies financial strain after losing substantial reality TV income.

While Leakes participated in BET’s “College Hill: Celebrity Edition” last year, earning a college degree from Texas Southern University, critics expressed embarrassment and disbelief, viewing the transition from Bravo to Zeus as unconventional.
