Erykah Badu is back in the news – again…this time after she decided to clap back at DJ Akademiks who made vulgar comments about her following a joke she made about him years ago.
During a recent episode of the Off the Record podcast, the show’s host thought he would make disparaging comments about the On & On crooner while discussing the recent news about Tory Lanez’ being sentenced 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
It all began when an Instagram user commented on a post telling Badu to “work your magic” against Akademics, who allegedly leaked information about Lanez during the high-profile case in December. He then called the Dallas native an “old a*s h*e” several rappers “ran through.”
It was in 2017 when Akademiks, born Livingston Allen, recalled a 2017 taping of Everyday Struggle, featuring Joe Budden and Nadeska Alexis, in which Badu told Akademics to his face that he reminded her of the mouse in the cartoon Tom & Jerry.
“Erykah Badu, let me tell you this: you keep my name out your mouth too,” he began in his tirade. “Listen, that little Everyday Struggle shit, that was another era, my n*gga. I’m down to violate all you n*ggas these days. F*ck what y’all got going on. You don’t mention my name, please. I don’t f*ck with you neither.”
He continued: “I never f*cked with Erykah Badu after she was tryna come on my show and be funny. B*tch, I don’t f*ck with you after that. N*gga, wassup now? What we finna do? B*tch, you a old a*s h*e, just keep getting f*cked by all these young n*ggas.”
He further questioned: “How many rappers done ran through you?” referring to Badu’s past relationships with André 3000, Common, Jay Electronica and The D.O.C.
In true Badu fashion, she clapped back Wednesday by posting a picture of her Badu P*ssy incense, featuring Jerry the Mouse emblazoned on the box’s cover. The mouse is seen wearing a gold chain with a pendant that reads “Livingston” on it.
“Badu P*ssy Just went live! Limited supply. http://baduworldmarket.com,” she wrote in the caption to the photo.
But while some thought the 52-year-old was joking, the incense, which is described as “Biggest P*ssy Energy” was available to purchase.
“In honor of the biggest pussy in our culture, we’re introducing this limited edition premium incense — cause he deserves it!” reads the product’s description on the site.
The incense sold out within hours, according to the neo-soul songstress.
“Y’all quick !!! Lol SOLD OUT 1000 boxes,” Erykah tweeted.
“I learned something super valuable today. You have to really be careful what you think and what you say out here,” Badu said. “I learned today that something I said five years ago in jest, when we all laughed, actually triggered someone’s really deep-rooted trauma. They kept it bottled up for a while and it hurt them so bad. Had them out in these streets acting real pussy.”
Akademiks has not responded at the time of this writing.
