After one year of back-and-forth in court, the state of Florida sentenced a young man to 50 years in prison for murdering Gabrielle Bolton, 18, his girlfriend at the time.
The fatal incident happened on Sept. 19, 2022, after an argument between Bolton and now-sentenced Isaiah Greene, 19, but police gave details about the case in a press release dated Oct. 6, 2023.
Greene told investigators that the argument escalated while Bolton was in the bathroom and he grabbed a metal object and repeatedly hit her with it before dragging her body from the bathroom to the bedroom and covering her.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Bolton’s body wrapped in a shower curtain and towel with “obvious” signs of trauma to her head, according to the state attorney’s office.
Reports about the incident last year said Bolton died of gunshot wounds.
Before the judge handed down Greene’s sentence, Bolton’s mom, Nichole Bolton, described him as a “monster”.
“When our children are little we are always telling them ‘there are no such things as monsters,’ this is a lie. My daughter was taken by one,” she told reporters.
Reports say after Greene killed Bolton, he fled the scene, but his mother told investigators her son had called her earlier that morning saying he was upset with Bolton and that “I didn’t mean to do it.”
Greene was found a short time later at a different location and arrested after confessing to the murder during questioning. Greene also told detectives that he and Bolton had been dating for about a year and that he had been physically and mentally abusive to her.
