Simone Biles has opened up for the first time since her lavish wedding ceremony in Cabo San Lucas Saturday. It is the second ceremony following a more intimate courthouse ceremony in Houston Apr. 22.

“I actually felt so sick the entire day, and when it was almost time to walk, my heart was beating out of my chest. I’ve never been so nervous before in my life,” the Olympic champ shared with Vogue. “[But] I felt confident walking down the aisle. Seeing Jonathan at the altar was a dream. Our guests were cheering for everyone. I was shocked by the love in the air. The ceremony was so beautiful and dreamy.”

The elegant affair took place at the Umi Terrace of the Nobu Los Cabos, which was embellished with white and gold decor. A cellist was hired to play enchanting strings as she walked down the aisle with her father to join hands with her now-husband, NFL athlete Jonathan Owens.

Biles had four wardrobe changes throughout the day, including a custom Galia Lahav’s Gimaya gown. “I was nervous about having a ball gown because I’m so petite— but it works perfect,” she explained. “The leg slit was very crucial. It was to add, in my head, more length to my body. I think this is exactly how brides are supposed to feel: luxurious, beautiful, kind of on top of the world.”

The newlyweds exchanged handwritten vows and were flanked by eight bridesmaids and seven groomsmen. The “most magical” moment came when whales soared out of the ocean during the ceremony.

“Whales were jumping out of the water as our ceremony started,” the 26-year-old explained. “Whale season is over, by the way. It sprinkled for two minutes after we got married—which is good luck! And we had a full moon. It was truly the most magical!”

Before the second ceremony, the gold medalist and Owens shared a series of photos of a more intimate ceremony at a Houston courthouse. “I do. Officially Owens,” she captioned the photos, which were shot by Houston-based photographer Rachel Taylor.”

Biles opted for a four-tiered wedding gown with a plunging neckline and strappy open back. She accessorized the look with a dainty necklace and wore her hair in a sophisticated high ponytail.

Weeks before the wedding, friends and family of the couple came together to witness her lofty bridal shower under the theme “On Cloud 9.”

Biles rocked a stunning white beaded gown, while her friends donned sapphire-colored attire.
