Keisha Lance Bottoms Elected Atlanta’s Next Mayor | @KeishaBottoms #BlackGirlMagic

City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms became Atlanta’s 60th Mayor, beating out her opponent, Mary Norwood in an extremely tight race.

Less than 800 votes separated the candidates, but Bottoms ultimately nabbed the winning vote, beating out Norwood by a mere 759 votes. It is said that Norwood would be asking for a recount, but Bottoms already seems to be settling into her new role as Mayor-Elect, spending the morning after her victory, being interviewed by local news stations, ignoring all of the salty, white tears.

This week, many celebrities took to social media to encourage Atlanta to support the Democratic candidate.

Many feel that the race was as close as it was because of Bottoms’ endorsement by the current mayor, Kasim Reed, whose administration has been accused of corruption and bribery investigation and is allegedly being investigated by the Atlanta City Hall, diving the Black vote. But we should allow Bottoms to begin her term with a clean slate, and prove to her constituents, why she deserved to win the race. Whatever their feelings, a win is a win!
