La La Dishes on Marriage: ‘Most Married People That I Know Are Miserable’

by Xara Aziz

La La Anthony has not been one to hold back about the trials and tribulations she faced while married to her now ex-husband Carmelo Anthony, and in a recent The Breakfast Club interview, she’s revealing why she will never get married again.

“The people in the public eye go through stuff,” she said on the show. “It’s like this kinda idea of like, well, people don’t feel bad for them, or what did you expect, or what did you think.”

She then detailed that while she knew she was entering into a high-profile (and very public) relationship when she met Carmelo, she didn’t think her then-hubby would cheat.

La La Anthony filed for divorce from Carmelo Anthony in 2021 citing irreconcilable differences.

“Especially even dealing with athletes. It’s kinda like, well, what did you think was gonna happen? Guess what? Nobody goes into a marriage thinking that that’s gonna happen. No, you don’t go into a marriage thinking that. If you thought that and believed that your connection with that person wasn’t something different, then you wouldn’t get married to them.”

She continued: “I went into a marriage saying I found a connection with someone that, we’re gonna do it different,” she explained. “Regardless if you’re an athlete, whatever you are, entertainer. Any kind of business you’re in.”

After much reflection following her divorce from Carmelo in 2021, she said that she doesn’t believe marriage is the goal for many.

“I don’t hear people who aren’t married saying like, ‘I wanna get married.’ You just start hearing it less and less,” she detailed. “Like, before, that was a goal…I’m not in conversation with people who are like, ‘I can’t wait to meet someone and get married.’”

Being married is tough, she added, stating that “most married people that I know are miserable. And not happy. And don’t wanna be married.”

La La and Carmelo became engaged in 2004 after meeting the year prior. They wed six years later and share a son, Kiyan, 15. In 2021, La La filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
