A 32-year-old pregnant woman, Latoya Davis, was tragically shot and killed outside a Wawa in Collingdale, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Police have charged 30-year-old Evelena Williams with first-degree murder, criminal homicide, and first-degree murder of an unborn child in connection with the fatal shooting.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Wawa located at 910 MacDade Boulevard around 7:20 p.m.
Police found Davis lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her upper torso, and she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Davis was reportedly pregnant at the time of the shooting.
Williams, who remained at the scene, told officers she shot Davis and was later found to be licensed to carry the Ruger .380 semiautomatic firearm used in the crime.
Surveillance footage from Wawa shows Davis attempting to flee before Williams fired the fatal shot.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and police continue to investigate.
The two women did not know each other beforehand, police say.
“Unfortunately they ended up parking their cars next to each other,” said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.
