California Congresswomen Maxine Waters will be covering the Dec/Jan issue of Essence magazine. In this behind the scenes video, our favorite Auntie, shares her thoughts on Black beauty, natural hair and her advice for women who want to run for office.
During the BTS interview, Waters describes the birth of the phrase “Black Is Beautiful,” and what it means to her as well as her thoughts on democracy.
The vocal democrat made headlines earlier this week when she led the crowd at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards to chant “impeach him,” a direct call for President Trump’s impeachment.
“You recognize when a leader is dangerous, even if that leader is the president of the United States of America. I want you to know that you can stand up to him or anybody else. For those who say to me, ‘You are asking for something too soon and too early, be careful, don’t jeopardize yourself, don’t say what you’re saying right now,’ I will continue to say, ‘Impeach him! Impeach him! Impeach him!”
