Indian actress and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas has inked a ‘two-year multimillion-dollar first-look television deal’ with Amazon Prime.
“As both an actor and producer, I have always dreamt of an open canvas of creative talent coming together from all over the world to create great content irrespective of language and geography. This has always been the DNA of my production house Purple Pebble Pictures, and is the foundation of this exciting new endeavor with Amazon,” Chopra Jonas wrote via her Instagram account.
Chopra became the first major Bollywood star signed by CAA back in 2012, landing more than 60 major Bollywood film titles.
Chopra Jonas is excited about the prospect of representing her culture on Amazon Prime and its audience of millions. She says her projects can be in any language she chooses.
“My quest really is to be able to tell female stories, work with creators from around the world and create a cross-pollination of storytelling,” Chopra Jonas says. “Amazon is such a great partner to do that because their reach and outlook is so global. My Amazon television deal is a global deal, so I can do Hindi language, I can do English language, I can do whatever language I want.”
Chopra Jonas’ news marks the second major signing this week to a streaming platform. Netflix also announced that they had tapped marketing whiz Bozoma “Boz” Saint John as its new Chief Marketing Officer.
“I’m thrilled to join Netflix, especially at a time when storytelling is critical to our global, societal well-being. I feel honored to contribute my experience to an already dynamic legacy, and to continue driving engagement in the future,” said Saint John.
