Candiace Dillard-Baasett is once again trending for making colorist statements. Still, this time, she drags her unborn children into the conversation in an unpleasant way.
Remember that in 2021, the RHOP castmate set off a fierce debate among Real Housewives of Potomac viewers after she claimed she is constantly mistreated by fans due to the color of her skin.
Candiace Dillard Bassett also revealed that “light-skinned” privilege is why she received more criticism than her co-stars, particularly Ashley Darby.
Dillard’s statements about Ashley Darby were made by a Bravo fan who claimed that despite Darby being a “worse” and “reckless mouth” housewife, Dillard was the one who was unfairly targeted.
She followed her assertion with a post on X, saying, “”Having light skin imbues one w/ a certain level of privilege that darker hued counterparts are not allotted, Dillard later expounded on Twitter. “Standards are different. Implicit biases spewed by the outside world run differently. Sometimes, it works in their favor, sometimes not. But the privilege is always there.”
Earlier this week, while appearing on the Don’t Call Me White Girl podcast, Candiace Dillard confessed how she feels about her children’s skin color.
“That wasn’t a thing. That was just his thought, and we moved past it. But one thing I do have is a fear of having light-skinned children. I want my kids to be brown. And they are probably not going to be brown, and I’m like becoming okay with it,” the reality star declared.
Even after the host expressed shock, Dillard continued, “I want my kids to be brown. I would be very happy. But if they are not, it’s fine.”
Comments flooded the video, with fans sharing how much Bassett is obsessed with skin color despite marrying a white man.
“Now let a light-skinned person say they have a fear of having dark-skinned children…we really gotta let this skin tone thing go…” one fan commented.
Another added, “She the real colorist of the show, but y’all not ready for that convo because she dark-skinned.”
