Saweetie shocked fans a few weeks back when she revealed her bold new buzz cut.
While the new move seemed drastic, the rapper still looked incredible. Fans still wondered what prompted the “Icy” rapper to go for the big chop.
During a sitdown with Power 106’s Bryhana, she revealed what led her to take the leap.
“Meditation, as crazy as it sounds, because I just found so much clarity within myself,” Saweetie explained. “I wanted to start over and I did research about hair and hair holds a lot of energy. And I really wanted to just feel new and fresh with this new music. I won’t say new me. But elevated me. I really just wanted to start over again.”
And what exactly is the new, “elavated” Saweetie?
“She meditates, she’s centered, she has clarity, she knows what she wants, she puts her foot down. I feel like before I discovered meditation, everything was, ‘Yes yes yes, I’ll do it,'” she shared. “No matter how bad my body felt, if the opportunity was great, I just said yes and I kept running down my mental, my spiritual, my physical. But how am I gonna continue to work if I’m depleted?”
Saweetie recently released H.E.R. collab “Closer,” which made it into the Billboard Hot 100. You can check out the video below.
Speaking to Billboard last year, she said she hopes people get to know the real her.
“I need people to know who Diamonte is, and not just who Saweetie is,” she shared. “I have feelings and I’m a human being,” she explained. “But people just talk about you like you can’t read, and I think there’s just this misconception that I come from perfect beginnings, and I’m just some perfect individual. But it’s like, no. I have feelings just like everyone else.”
