A nurse’s candid Instagram post is inspiring thousands of aspiring healthcare workers to push through nursing school with the promise of financial stability and career growth on the other side.
Posting under the name Lanice T., the nurse shared a motivational message on Instagram, writing: “Please get that degree babyyy. Let this motivate you!!😎🎉🫶🏽 This page [is] for future nursing students, current nursing students, & current nurses.”
In an accompanying video, she spoke directly to students who may be struggling financially while in school.
“Your account might be in the negatives right now,” she said, “but when you get up out [of] nurse school, baby, it won’t be no negatives no more. Like all your financial problems — poof — they gone.”
Breaking down her first paychecks as a working nurse, Lanice explained how she’s been able to cover bills, support her child, and save:
“My first paycheck, right? Paid half of my bills… The second paycheck, I didn’t have no bills to pay. Of course, I took TJ shopping… but this check really was just mine. I put some in savings. I paid my tithes. I put extra on my credit card. And I’m just sitting on the rest.”
She encouraged nursing students to keep their eyes on the long-term reward:
“That’s how it’s gonna go for me — that first check each month, bills. And then the second one, mine. And that gives me time to save and pay extra on other bills. So yeah… y’all better get a degree.”
Her post quickly gained traction among future and current nurses, resonating with those balancing financial hardships, long study hours, and the dream of entering a stable and rewarding profession.
“Period. so motivating… You don’t understand how much your videos settle my spirit sometimes. 🫶🏾🫶🏾” one person wrote in appreciation.
