Anee Roberson, a 30-year-old transgender woman, was fatally assaulted near Nellie’s Sports Bar, a well-known gay bar in Northwest D.C., on October 14.
Following the assault, she was struck by a car and later died at a local hospital, reports People. The medical examiner determined that her cause of death was blunt force injuries, officially ruling it a homicide.
The driver of the car that hit Roberson remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
However, they were not linked to the initial assault. While it has been confirmed that Roberson was a transgender woman, it remains unclear whether her death is being investigated as a hate crime.
As of October 20, no arrests have been made in connection to the assault. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the identification and conviction of the person responsible for the attack.
Roberson’s friend, Oluwaferanni Olarinde, emphasized the need to remember Roberson for her passion and consistency.

Also, ShineMyCrown reported last May that the Atlanta Police found a person of interest related to Rasheeda Williams, the Black transgender woman who was brutally gunned down earlier this year.
Homicide detectives have confirmed that Jermarcus Jernigan, 17, was issued an arrest warrant and has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. He is being charged as an adult under Georgia law.
“Mr. Jernigan turned himself in at the Zone 1 Precinct,” reads a statement from Atlanta Police. He was subsequently transported to the Fulton County Jail and placed into custody.
