A devastating house fire in Georgiana, Alabama, claimed the lives of 72-year-old Jimmy Walton and his 28-year-old daughter Tanya Walton early Sunday morning, Dec. 1, 2024.

Both tragically perished while attempting to rescue pets trapped inside their burning home.

The fire was reported at approximately 3:20 a.m., and when firefighters arrived, they were met by a frantic resident who informed them her husband and daughter were still inside.

Despite initial reports that Jimmy and Tanya had escaped the blaze, family members revealed that Tanya re-entered the home to save her two dogs. Jimmy followed to assist her, but neither survived as the house collapsed.

Georgiana Police Chief Jeremy Peagler confirmed their deaths, expressing condolences to the family.

The fire, believed by the family to have been caused by a space heater, completely destroyed the home and a vehicle parked nearby.

The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the official cause of the blaze.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the grieving family, who not only lost two loved ones but also their home and belongings. The fundraiser has already raised over $11,000 in donations.

The Waltons’ tragic story underscores the dangers of house fires and the heartbreaking risks people take to save what they love.
