Jada Pinkett-Smith posted a video on her Instagram this week, showing off her shaved head, while sharing that she suffers from alopecia.

“At this point, I can only laugh. Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia, and just all of sudden one day—look at this line right here,” she says, pointing to a line at the front of her head. “It just showed up like that,” she says to the camera.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes your hair to fall out. According to WebMD, the hair often falls out in clumps the size and shape of a quarter. However, the amount of hair loss is different in everyone. Most cases occur before the age of 30.

Pinkett-Smith captioned the post: “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something,” she wrote. “Me and this alopecia are going to be friends….period!”

In the video, she also said that she said she was telling her fans first before they started to notice and bombard her with questions. “This is gonna be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I’d just share it. So y’all not asking any questions,” she clarified.

There’s currently no cure for alopecia areata, but there are treatments that may help hair grow back more quickly and that can prevent future hair loss.

However, the Hollywood actress isn’t gonna let it get her down.

“Y’know mama’s gonna put some rhinestones in there. I’m gonna make me a little crown. That’s what mama’s gonna do.”
