At 91 years young, Delores Spencer epitomizes this sentiment, embodying resilience, dedication, and an unwavering passion for mathematics that has transcended decades.

For Spencer, the formula behind her remarkable longevity lies in a trifecta of factors: staying active, maintaining a balanced diet, and unwavering faith.

“My theory is, if you don’t lose it, you’re going to lose it,” she shared with News 3, encapsulating her philosophy on life and vitality.

News 3 first covered the story of Mrs. Spencer four years ago, as she embarked on a journey of online tutoring via her Facebook page, ‘Mrs. Spencer’s Math Lab,’ a venture that blossomed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thousands of students across the nation, including Jadyn Wilson from Texas, benefitted from Spencer’s expertise and enthusiasm.

Wilson, reflecting on her experience, expressed admiration for Mrs. Spencer’s unwavering love for mathematics, a sentiment echoed by many who have been touched by her teachings.

But, almost two years ago, Mrs. Spencer’s tutoring came to an abrupt halt when she suffered a fall that necessitated brain surgery.

“I was really a baby after that surgery, meaning I could do nothing,” Spencer recounted.

The road to recovery was arduous, requiring her to relearn basic functions and navigate through immense physical and emotional challenges.

“I could eat, but someone had to feed me,” she revealed, capturing the depth of her struggle.

However, she attributes her progress to numerous miracles and unwavering faith.

Despite the setbacks, Spencer’s indomitable spirit persevered. While she’s uncertain about returning to Facebook tutoring, she remains committed to her passion for teaching, currently tutoring one student and looking forward to taking on more in the future.

“As long as I can help, that’s what I want to do,” she affirmed.

With aspirations of reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years, Spencer remains a beacon of inspiration, proving that age is indeed just a number in the pursuit of one’s passions and purpose.
