After a challenging journey that involved two rounds of egg retrieval and the freezing of embryos, Candiace Dillard Bassett and her husband, Chris Bassett, are joyfully expecting their first child.
Just weeks after announcing her departure from “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” Candiace Dillard Bassett is embarking on a new journey: motherhood.
The 37-year-old star and her 46 -46-year-old husband revealed to Entertainment Tonight on Monday that Dillard Bassett is in her second trimester and expecting their first child later this year.
“Our doctor called us at 8 a.m., and she told us that we’re pregnant. We waited and waited and waited all this time. So to finally hear that, after those two weeks, the process has worked after a year of doing the shots,” Candiace Dillard Bassett revealed.
In January, the couple had one of their embryos implanted and waited two weeks to determine whether she was pregnant.
Now, Candiace is heading into the second trimester of her pregnancy after undergoing successful implantation in surgery. The couple used an embryo harvested and frozen two years ago.
“I always felt like a part of my anxiety was that I wasn’t sure that I would know, and when I knew, it was undeniable. I just had to trust the process and trust my doctors, stop being afraid, and just do it,” she told ET.
With approximately four years remaining before her “cut-off date”—when Chris turned 50—the 37-year-old admitted that she “got the itch.” Before realizing one day that “I was never going to be 100 percent ready,” she had been contemplating how she might know when she was ready.

“So once we decided together that we were going to do that — together — it just was kind of all moving by faith from there,” she continued.
The reality star shared the fantastic news with her fans on Instagram with a video featuring the sonogram of the fetus.
