Former first lady Michelle Obama delivered her closing message to Americans in a campaign video, calling President Donald Trumpâs actions âmorally wrongâ and âracist.â
âBut right now, the President and his allies are trying to tap into that frustration and distract from his breathtaking failures by giving folks someone to blame other than them,â she said. âTheyâre stoking fears about Black and Brown Americans, lying about how minorities will destroy the suburbs, whipping up violence and intimidation â and theyâre pinning it all on whatâs been an overwhelmingly peaceful movement for racial solidarity.â
âSo what the President is doing is, once again, patently false. Itâs morally wrong and yes, it is racist. But that doesnât mean it wonât work,â she continued.
She urged voters not to buy into the current administrationâs divisive tactics.
âI want everyone who is still undecided to think about all those folks like me and my ancestors,â she said, âthe millions of folks who look like me and fought and died and toiled as slaves and soldiers and laborers to help build this country.â
The video comes less than a month before Election Day. Trump has declined to say whether he will participate in a peaceful transition of power. The publicâs fears were stoked further when during last weekâs presidential debate, he told the far-right group, Proud Boys, to âstand down and stand by.â
âRacism, fear, division, these are powerful weapons,â Obama asserted. âAnd they can destroy this nation if we donât deal with them head on. To all the young people out there, to all the Black and Brown folks, to anyone who feels frustrated and alienated by this whole system, I get it. I really do. Search your hearts, and your conscience, and then vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it.â
