Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, passed away over the weekend (Dec 30th). The 27-year-old activist had suffered a heart attack on Christmas Eve and was placed into a medically induced coma to keep her stable. Many of Garner’s close friends and family, as well as her supporters prayed for her full recovery but was eventually pronounced brain dead. Her family confirmed the news via Erica’s official Twitter account.

She passed away this morning. The reports are real. We didn't deserve her.

When you report this you remember she was human: mother, daughter, sister, aunt. Her heart was bigger than the world. It really really was. She cared when most people wouldn't have. She was good. She only pursued right, no matter what. No one gave her justice.

Erica sprung into action following the brutal murder of her father, Erica Garner at the hands of the NYPD‘s Officer Daniel Pantaleo. Back in 2014, Mr. Garner was placed in an unauthorized choke-hold by the overzealous police officer, whose last words “I can’t breathe,” were ignored, despite him repeating them 11 times. Erica Garner worked tirelessly to get justice for her father, but to this day, no charges have been brought against Pantaleo.
Our prayers go out to the Garner family.
