Shea Butter Baby star Ari Lennox has been unlucky in love and hasn’t been afraid to tell it. The Waste My Time singer opened up in a recent R&B Money Podcast episode to disclose that her journey to love hasn’t been easy, but she’s still hopeful the right man will come along to sweep her off her feet.

In the interview with hosts Tank and J. Valentine, the 32-year-old Washington, D.C. native began by stating that when she was younger, she was more interested in blossoming her career, although she never thought she would become famous.

“Never,” she responded when Tank asked her if she thought she would ever become a superstar. “I just always just kept doing it, and I was ready to leave it all for this man, but he went to the military, and so I was forced to kinda like focus on my dreams. But really, I always want to leave this for love and start a family. I don’t want to keep doing this.”

She added: “I don’t want to give that much energy to this man or dream man, but it’s like, I want a family. I feel like that’s true life or true love. To have a family is beautiful, it seems, so I want that.”

It wasn’t long ago when she was romantically linked to basketball athlete Keith Manley and made it “Instagram official” by posting pictures of him and her online. They would end up breaking up a month later.

After the short fling, she said she is now prioritizing herself in a journey toward self-care. She said that therapy helped assist her navigate her path toward love.

And it’s been a blessing to say, ‘You know what? This is not right. This doesn’t feel right. It’s time to move on,'” she explained. “So it’s cool learning about myself, learning my flaws, becoming more self-aware, and just realizing there’s a lot of healing I need to do before I can even consider being in a situation with someone.”

So there you have it, ladies. Love yourself first. Then the right love will find you.
