British actress Ruby Barker says nobody from the Production Company, Shondaland, and Netflix reached out after she suffered a nervous breakdown during filming.
Ruby Barker, who played Marina Thompson in the popular Netflix series “Bridgerton,” called out producers for allegedly not supporting her during her battle with mental health.
The 26-year-old actress opened up about the struggles and challenges she faced while acting in “Bridgerton”. She revealed she was deserted when she suffered a mental breakdown while working.
According to Ruby Barker, producers of the show and the streaming service did not reach out when her mental health suffered as a result of working on the series.
“Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland, since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show, have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask me if I’m okay or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support. Nobody,” Ruby disclosed.
The British actress further revealed the damaging effects acting her role had on her mental health. Ruby Barker maintained that her isolated role in ” Bridgerton” hastened her mental decline, which began while filming season one of the series.
Ruby Barker’s character, Marina Thompson, is a Featherington cousin who got pregnant out of wedlock and tried to hide it from her the ton.
“During filming, I was deteriorating. It was a really tormenting place for me to be because my character was very alienated, very ostracized. On her own under these horrible circumstances,” she continued.
The British actress revealed that she was hospitalized for a year after she had her first psychotic break in 2019. She added that the incident was kept under wraps to save the show from negative publicity and low premiere ratings.
