Candace Parker has entered the history books by becoming the first WNBA player to appear on an NBA 2K game cover.
Parker is featured on the cover of the WNBA 25th Anniversary Special Edition of NBA 2K22, which will hit the shelves on September 10th.
Parker plays for Chicago Sky and is a six-time WNBA All-Star. She is also a two-time WNBA MVP and 2016 WNBA Finals MVP.
“I grew up a video game fanatic, that’s what I did, to the point where my brothers would give me the fake controller when I was younger where I think I was playing and I wasn’t,” Parker told ESPN.
“All I wanted to do was just be like them. As a kid growing up, you dream of having your own shoe and dream of being in a video game. Those are an athlete as a kid’s dreams. To be able to experience that, I don’t take it lightly.”
Parker also took to social media to celebrate her fantastic news.
“Extremely proud and humbled to be the first female cover athlete in the history of @NBA2K,” she tweeted. “I’m honored to work with a company that’s investing in women and betting on us to succeed. I’m hopeful there will be many more badass females to follow 💪🏽💪”
Parker has been winning over hearts and minds off the court too.
She also serves as an NBA analyst with TNT and launched a parenting podcast in May, called “Moments with Candace Parker,” inspired by her 12-year-old daughter.
“She’s the center of my entire world,” Parker told Trevor Noah at the time. “I had Tia Mowry as a guest. D-Wade and Gabby [Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union] who are amazing parents. I’m just really excited to chat with a lot of different [parents] because I think there’s no blueprint when it comes to raising a child.”
