Cardi B, who is currently in her third trimester and expecting her fourth child, had something to say to the online critics who felt they could comment on her pregnancy body.
The drama began when a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a video of the Grammy winner and tried to throw some shade, saying, “Can we please tell her the truth?” Instead of brushing it off, Cardi decided to respond in a way that was her usual style.
“You don’t need to tell me the truth,” she shot back. “I gained 27 pounds in my third trimester. My hips and butt have spread. Should I just wear sweats until I give birth?” She sealed her point with a mic-drop moment: “Y’all do this every time I’m pregnant. When I bounce back, it’s ‘omgggg you look great blah blah’… LET ME EAT CAKE IN PEACE!!!”
Fans quickly rallied behind her, praising her for being open about her body and challenging the harmful double standards surrounding pregnancy. One fan remarked, “Cardi always keeps it real. Women’s bodies change! That’s part of growing a human.” Another added, “She’s right. They criticize her when she gains weight, then praise her when she gets back in shape. The internet is strange.”
Medical experts note that Cardi’s weight gain of 27 pounds is well within the healthy range of 25 to 35 pounds for someone in their third trimester. Yet, the critics didn’t hold back, and Cardi made it clear that she hasn’t undergone any surgery in the past two years.
This isn’t the first occasion Cardi has spoken out against body shaming, especially during her pregnancies. The Bronx-born star is transparent about her journey as a mother, using her platform to promote acceptance and body positivity.
