Iyanla Shares Her Views On Mo’Nique’s Netflix Boycott

by Yah Yah

Actress and comedienne Mo’Nique has been in the news a lot lately all due to her call to boycott Netflix. The boycott has caused quite a controversy, and it’s caused lots of people to choose sides. Whether you’re with Mo’Nique or not one person has decided to have her back when it comes to this issue. Life coach Iyanla Vanzant believes that people should show their support for the comedienne because the boycott is deeper than just her personal issues.

Vanzant spoke with Madame Noire on Tuesday (March 7) and weighed in on her stance with the situation stating, “Mo’Nique can’t fight that battle by herself, and people will not stand up for the battle or not stand up for the cause because it’s Mo’Nique, well, it didn’t start with Mo’Nique, so either we’re going to do it, or we’re not, but don’t make this about Mo’Nique. It’s not about Mo’Nique. Mo’Nique is just saying what other people have refused to say.”

The TV personality further states that she doesn’t understand why people are so surprised that Mo’Nique alleges the streaming service engages in color and gender bias while discussing her deal, compared to Amy Schumer who got $13 million and Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle who each got offered $20 million.

Iyanla raises some interesting points it’s still unknown if the reasoning behind Mo’Nique’s 500,000 deal was due to her being a black woman or because of her relevance.
