Erika Alexander On Working With Cosby: “I Think I Saw Things That I Thought Were Rude At The Time”

‘Living Single’ legend Erika Alexander stopped by The Breakfast Club to speak about her career and representation in the industry and the lack of diversity on television at the time.

During the interview, she detailed life as a teenage actress on The Cosby Show and addressed her former co-star Lisa Bonet’s comments on the Cosby scandal and admitted to seeing this on set herself and claims that Cosby was not “Unfortunately he wasn’t who we all thought he was.”

“I think I saw things that I thought were rude at the time but I’d also been raised in a cruel world. I really had been.” She continued “And you kind of talk yourself into things and say “Well, you know that’s how adults are.”

She also expressed her disappointment with the new generations lack of interest in comic books.

“It’s a shame because it was not only a way to stimulate their own imagination, show them things that they may not see but also it taught them reading, it taught them how to do narrative work; continuing stories, how to do cliffhangers. There were really amazing moral stories tuck into there. Jack ‘King’ Kirby and Stan Lee were amazing at it, but they were just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how much talent was out there doing that.”

Alexander has her own award-winning comic book, Concrete Park. The graphic novel series is a collaboration with Tony Puryear and Erika Alexander and is published by Dark Horse Comics. The second installment is coming soon.
