Authorities in Maryland say a body discovered off Route 50 in Anne Arundel County may be connected to the ongoing search for 19-year-old DaCara Thompson, who has been missing since Aug. 28.
Discovery Near Route 50

On Aug. 31, Maryland State Police reported finding the body of a woman in a grassy area near Route 50 east of Annapolis. Investigators were initially dispatched to the scene to check on a disabled vehicle when they came across the remains.
Prince George’s County Police confirmed the body shares similar characteristics with Thompson but stressed that official identification has not yet been made.
The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy is underway.
“At this point, there has not been a confirmation, but the characteristics are similar. So we’re exploring that,” said Prince George’s County Police Chief in a press briefing.
Thompson’s Disappearance
Thompson was last seen on Aug. 28 after reassuring her father she would be home shortly. Days later, her car was located in Hyattsville with her wallet and keys left inside, but her phone and key fob were missing.
Her disappearance triggered a wide search effort, with family members and police appealing to the public for information.
Family Waiting for Answers
The possible discovery of her remains has left Thompson’s loved ones in anguish as they await the medical examiner’s findings.
Authorities are treating the case as a death investigation, but no official cause of death has been released.
For now, Thompson’s family — and the community that has followed her story for nearly two weeks — must wait for confirmation in what has become a heartbreaking case.
