A California business is getting bad press for a vile and inhumane act of immorality after a man was filmed dousing a homeless woman sitting in front of the establishment– but the business has come out to say that they had nothing to do with the man’s act of cruelty.
KRON4 obtained video of the man spraying a heavy stream of water on the woman as she pleaded with him to stop. Rather than stopping, the man orders her to “move! Are you gonna move?”
San Francisco Police were called to the scene moments after the incident. According to authorities, they were responding to a call of possible assault, but when officers arrived, neither party wanted to pursue legal action. A police report was filed anyway, and the woman was provided support services.
The San Francisco Chronicle has identified the man as Collier Gwin, the owner of a nearby art gallery. He claimed that before he sprayed the woman down, he asked her to leave the premises but instead, she yelled while hurling trash cans at him.
“She starts screaming belligerent things, spitting, yelling at me… at that point she was so out of control… I spray her with the hose and say move, move. I will help you,” Gwin explained.
Meanwhile, owners of Barbarossa Lounge, where the incident took place, came out to defend their business.
“Barbarossa is in no way connected to the inhumane actions portrayed on the video,” they wrote in a statement posted on Instagram.
Edson Garcia captured the video that has since gone viral. The man, who works at a café next door said that “sometimes you can do more with one video than you [can by] telling the community what’s happening through the city. Sometimes you do that to remind the people who we are,” he told KRON4.
