Pregnant songstress Keke Wyatt has responded to backlash for publicly revealing that her unborn child has been diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder.
Wyatt announced the news onstage during a live performance.
“I found out the doctor say my baby has trisomy 13,” she sang, brimming with emotion.
Wyatt’s baby tested positive for Trisomy 13. For children born with the disorder, chromosome 13 appears three times in full or part. They can be born with a host of congenital disabilities, including cleft palate, cleft lip, kidney problems, clenched fists, extra fingers or toes etc.
The babies usually only survive a few weeks.
While most people were supportive, some called the star out for announcing the news.
Wyatt took time out to respond to her critics:
“I’d like to send a special prayer out for the rude, cruel people that took time out of their day to get on social media and make disparaging and morbid comments concerning my pregnancy,” she captioned an Instagram video of herself singing. “This past weekend at my show I was very transparent with my amazing fans (who I see as family) about the status of my pregnancy. I explained to them, the day after my maternity photo shoot my husband, [Zackariah Darring], and I received the news that our baby tested positive for Trisomy 13 per the doctor.”
The child will be Wyatt’s 11th.
In a recent interview, she revealed that she is open to having baby no.12.
“Well, my hunnie, [Zackariah Darring], can wear a [‘Last One’] shirt all he wants, [but] I have learned never say never,” she told Us Weekly. “So we shall see. OK!”
Wyatt and Zarring currently share a two-year-old son Ke’Riah. She also shares Keyver, 21, Rahjah, 19, and Ke’Tarah, 13, with ex-husband Rahmat Morton and Ke’Mar, 11, Wyatt, 9, Ke-Yoshi, 6, and Kendall, 4, with ex-husband Michael Ford.
We are sending the Wyatt-Zarring family love and positivity.
