Singer and songwriter Kelis is lucky to be alive after a family ski trip to Big Bear took a scary turn.
On Monday, the Harlem native took to Instagram to explain how the whole ordeal unraveled.
“My plan was to take the kids to the snow, but we almost fell off a cliff!” she captioned the Instagram Reel. “So make the best of what ya got, and always be prepared lol.”
In the clip, she recalls that her “truck got stuck, it’s, like, hanging off the cliff…We’ve been outside for a while. But we had on our snowboarding gear, so God is good. And I figure, if you’re gonna be in this situation, you should at least look your best.”
The 43-year-old mother of three said that a tow truck attempted to remove her truck from the mountainside, but it was too dark and windy. She then proceeded to show her 900k followers images of her white and pink fur coat layered with a mint-colored scarf. She then showed fans her caramel gator purse and metallic boots.
“You know, things could be worse,” she jokingly quipped. “This is ridiculous. Rescue fashion!”
Kelis was recently featured in an Uber One Super Bowl commercial alongside Diddy, Montell Jordan, Donna Lewis, Ylvis and Haddaway. In the ad, she performs a new rendition of her 2003 hit, Milkshake, which was involved in controversy last year after the star accused Beyoncé of including an interpolation of the song on the track, Energy, from her 2022 album Renaissance without permission. Beyoncé would eventually scrub the interpolation from the song entirely.
Born Kelis Rogers-Mora, the Caught Out There artist was admitted into the prestigious New York’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts at 14. She would then go on to do background vocals for rappers, including Busta Rhymes and Ol’ Dirty Bastard before collaborating with music producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (The Neptunes). She was signed to Virgin Records in 1998.
