Lil Mama has not been able to escape the time she crashed the 2009 Alicia Keys and Jay-Z’s performance of “Empire State of Mind.”

During a recent sitdown with Genius’ Rob Markman on Twitter Spaces, Markman asked Jay whether he forgives Lil Mama.

“Of course, of course. C’mon. Don’t do that… That’s our sister. Man, we love her. I wouldn’t recommend people just jumping on other artists’ stages,’ he said. “She’s a New Yorker… She got excited. Things happen. Of course we love her… yes, she’s forgiven. It’s all love and she was coming from a place of love it’s just… may have been a little too excited.”

Lil Mama caught wind of Jay’s kind words and responded with gratitude:

“I appreciate hearing this portion of last nights conversation. This has always been my stance , Love,” her post begins. “Love for both my big brother, big sister and my city. It brings clarity to all of us as a community to actually hear these words from our legendary leaders.”

She continued, “Hip Hop has always been a culture to me, not just music.. with that, I believe fellowship is very important to cultural growth. Reaching out to say you can do better or even to say your doing great can make the world of difference.”

She wrapped up the post by thanking both Jay and Alicia Keys, adding that she hopes they can have a conversation together.

In October, Alicia Keys shared that she was not aware of Lil Mama’s presence until the performance was over.

“To this day, I truly never knew she was even on the stage,” Keys said on “The Morning Hustle” when asked whether she forgave Lil Mama. “That’s the craziest part of the whole thing for me. I was on that stage, Jay was in the middle, she was on the other side of Jay, and I never saw her. Never. So, that was wild to me.”

“But I absolutely… it’s not even a statement. That was then. You know, she’s from New York, too. You know, I think she really felt the energy of the record and she loved it and she couldn’t hold herself back. Look, this is what my music does to people. What can we say?”
