They’ve captured our hearts in Black Panther and now these two amazing actresses are teaming up again to amaze us even more.Â
Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira will reunite for a TV miniseries adaption of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah.
Pluse.ng reports that the actresses have signed on to produce the top-selling critically acclaimed book. Adichie’s book tells the story of Ifemelu a writer from Nigeria who comes to America to find his identity and to proclaim self-love. Nyong’o has had the rights to the novel and had already had her mind set on making it into a film with Daniel Oleyowo another Black Panther alum.
Both Nyong’o and Gurira are longtime collaborators. Gurira who’s already a spectacular Wakandian warrior and fierce on The Walking Dead she also wrote Eclipsed. Eclipsed which tells the story of wives being captive by a commanding officer in a rebel army starred Lupita and it gave her, her first Tony nomination. According to avclub, she will play the lead role of Ifemelu in the miniseries.
Adichie sat down during an interview with The New York Times and explained the essence of the character “Ifemelu spends 13 years in the U.S. before moving back to Nigeria. I spent only four years in the U.S. before I went back, and have since lived in both countries,” she said. “That is a significant difference, as much of Ifemelu’s characters is shaped by being disconnected from home for so long. I quite like that she is a female character who is not safe and easily likable, who is both strong and weak, both prickly and vulnerable.”
