A Florida family is reeling from another devastating loss after Latoysia Denisha Davis, a 34-year-old mother of 10, was found shot to death in Orange County in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 9.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded to reports of an aggravated battery around 2 a.m. and discovered Davis with “obvious signs of trauma.”
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
For Davis’ family, the killing is heartbreakingly familiar. Her sister, Natisha Varela, told WESH that their mother was murdered in 2003 — a case that remains unsolved to this day. Varela fears her sister’s case could meet the same fate if no arrests are made.
“I just didn’t know how tragic it was, but once I got here, that hope was kind of lost,” Davis’ other sister, Sasha Thompson, told the outlet, recalling the moment she learned something had happened to Latoysia.
Davis leaves behind ten children, ranging in age from elementary school to 19 years old. She is being remembered as the vibrant heart of her family — loud, fun-loving, and unapologetically herself.
“Loud, party, fun, goofy, mean but sweet,” Varela described. “Sour patch? That’s a sour patch.”
On the National Gun Violence Memorial, tributes describe Davis as “always smiling” and “the life of the party.” In a Facebook post, Thompson wrote,
“My sister was real, loved, respected. She had a heart of gold, never held grudges, had such a forgiving spirit.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, August 13, no arrests have been made, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate. Authorities have not released any details on potential suspects or motives.
The loss has reignited community calls for justice — not only for Davis, but also for her mother’s unsolved murder from more than 20 years ago.
