Shopping can be frustrating at times. Whether itâs looking for those perfect shoes or that perfect top, trying to find that right item can be a nuisance. The most difficult thing about shopping is trying to find your size. If you are someone who (like myself) has a little extra loving around their waist than finding your size can be difficult.
Thankfully, Nordstrom is joining a list of other retail stores that will start including larger sizes. On Monday (October 2) the retailer called on top brands to include clothing that expands in sizes 14, 16, and 18 as well as including sizes 2 to 0. The luxury store also included that their âextending sizesâ initiative will begin at the Westfield Century Mall in Los Angeles.
The extending sizes will start in the denim department, that will feature mannequins in varies sizes. Nordstrom stated the goal isnât to eliminate the existing petite sizes or plus sizes but it to bridge the gap between the two.
âWe recognize the opportunity to serve customers better by having more sizes,â said Tricia Smith, Nordstrom executive VP and general merchandise manager for designer, womenâs and kids apparel. âStyle and fashion apply to everyone. Theyâre not created for a limited group of sizes. We donât view being size inclusive any differently than the need to be more inclusive across the board â whether itâs ethnicity, size or body type. In our opinion, petite and plus sizes shouldnât be considered special categories. Theyâre just sizes.â
Nordstromâs plan to bridge the gap between sizes is great and hopefully, the retailerâs initiative inspires other stores to do the same.
