If you’re anything like me, you’ve been wishing and praying that Michelle Obama might run for President some day. But it doesn’t look like the former first lady is coming back to the White House anytime soon.
Obama joined renowned TV producer and writer, Shonda Rhimes for a “chat” at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women in Philadelphia this Tuesday afternoon. Their conversation ranged from topics about what life was like at the White House to the challenges of raising two daughters in the age of social media under public scrutiny.
Michelle Obama recalled the pressure of being a first lady, “the last eight to ten years I felt like I was just running. It felt like being shot out of a cannon,” she told Rhimes. The former first lady has been vocal about the importance of women speaking out and making their voices heard, and this Tuesday wasn’t any different.
“I have been at so many tables with so many fools that are imposters, but shame on us if we sit by and let an imposter talk us down,” she said. “You see wrong happening and you sit by quietly because you’re afraid to fail – that’s what I want to challenge women to do: Speak up… Don’t waste your seat at the table. We can’t afford for you to be afraid to fail.”
Since leaving the White House in January, the Obamas have been spotted vacationing, dining out, and parading around town with friends. It’s safe to say that they are enjoying their time away from the White House. This week, the Obamas celebrated their 25th anniversary. Michelle Obama shared a touching anniversary message via her Instagram page that has so far racked up over 2 million likes.
Michelle Obama confirmed that she’s been working on a memoir that’s going to come out “around this time next year”. We can’t wait!
