Ohio Congresswoman Shontel Brown has taken to Instagram to raise concerns about climbing energy costs, linking the issue to President Donald Trump’s rollback of clean energy programs.
In a video post shared with her followers, Rep. Brown highlighted the strain on the nation’s power grid and the rising demand from data centers and artificial intelligence technology as key contributors to higher utility bills. She argued, however, that the problem has been worsened by federal policy reversals under Trump’s administration.
“When Democrats were in charge, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which included a bunch of programs to put more clean, low-cost energy projects on the grid so we could produce more energy and lower costs,” Brown said.
“It was working. But now President Trump and his rubber stamp Republicans have gutted so many of those programs with their big ugly bill.”
According to Brown, Ohio was set to benefit from $300 million in federal funding for solar power projects that had already been contracted and scheduled to begin this year.
She stated that those projects were canceled after Trump rescinded the funds, directly impacting the state’s efforts to expand renewable energy infrastructure.
Brown accused Trump of prioritizing fossil fuel interests over consumers, saying the policy shift benefits “billionaire buddies” at the expense of working families struggling with increasing monthly bills.
Her remarks come as households across Ohio and other parts of the country report higher utility costs, a trend energy analysts say is tied both to broader demand and changes in federal support for clean energy development.
