Gregg Leakes, the husband of “Real Houseiwves of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes, has sadly passed away.
The news comes days after NeNe released that Gregg would soon be transitioning to “the other side.”
“Today, the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife NeNe Leakes,” the couple’s rep said in a press release.
The statement continued, “We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family and allow them to mourn in private during this very, very difficult time.”
Gregg was diagnosed with colon cancer in June of 2018.
In July, NeNe shared that Gregg was back at home — six weeks after he was admitted for treatment related to the return of his cancer.
“I was suppose to be hosting The Talk today,” NeNe responded to a fan who asked her why she had been missing in action. “But I got good news that Gregg was coming home after being hospitalized 6 weeks.”
Speaking to The Jasmine Brand weeks prior, she said: “He’s been in the hospital for a week, tomorrow. I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so. He had to have a surgery,” she shared. “He’s super small,” she said. “If you’ve ever been around somebody who’s had cancer before, he’s different. He’s different.”
Last week, Gregg’s son, Brentt, posted a touching tribute to his Instagram. The post reads, “Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get. Time is so…valuable dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with NeNe and her family at this difficult time.
