“Real Housewives of New York” has suffered from low ratings this season — and viewers are pointing the finger at show newbie Eboni K. Williams.
A representative for Eboni says she is not the reason for the decline in viewers.
Eboni told TMZ that producers are to blame for the lower than usual ratings, not her discussions about racial issues. Eboni also adds that she “shouldn’t be the scapegoat” for plummeting ratings. Producers choose what to show viewers and are responsible for editing.
This is not the first season that has struggled for ratings — which is one of the reasons the show is always bringing Bethenny Frankel back.
But a source told Daily Mail that fans are tired of her “preaching.”
“Our viewers don’t want to be lectured to. They want a fun show – tipsy, middle-aged women with money fighting about petty stuff,” the source said this week. “Yes – let’s talk about the important issues facing our nation – but this cannot be the center of our show.”
The source also claims that Eboni wants Ramona to be demoted so she can have “her time to shine.”
“It’s not what our show is, but week after week, scene after scene, everyone is being schooled by a former Fox News host,” the insider adds. “It is the talk of the network that Eboni is demanding that Ramona be demoted to a friend for next season as Eboni believes that the show should be centered around her going forward.”
Eboni is the show’s first Black Housewife. The pressure on her to represent her community and boost ratings simultaneously has been immense.
But this season, none of the other ladies really have that much going on. The OG Housewives are notorious for getting wasted and being offensive — and Eboni is choosing the classy route.
We love her.
