In Thursday morning’s Round 1 heat, Richardson, the 100m silver medalist, delivered a stunning performance that secured Team USA’s place as the top contender for the final.
The race started strong for the U.S. team, but an awkward baton exchange between TeeTee Terry and Gabby Thomas nearly jeopardized their lead as they transitioned into the third leg of the relay.
However, any concerns quickly vanished when Richardson received the baton from Thomas.
Known for her explosive speed, Richardson surged past the competition, effortlessly crossing the finish line and ensuring a comfortable win for Team USA with a time of 41.94 seconds.
Richardson’s remarkable performance not only secured the heat victory but also placed Team USA in prime position for Friday’s final. Their time was the fastest among all qualifiers, with Germany finishing second at 42.15 seconds.
As the defending silver medalists from the 2021 Tokyo Games, Team USA is now the favorite to clinch gold, aiming to win their third gold medal in the 4x100m relay in the last four Olympics.
The stage is set for a thrilling final, with Richardson and her teammates determined to bring home the top prize.
