A 27-year-old mother of nine was fatally shot Thursday night on Chicago’s West Side, while a man was also wounded in the same incident, according to Chicago police.

The shooting took place around 10:50 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police said the victims, 27-year-old Tia Bell, and a 26-year-old man, were standing outside when an unidentified gunman approached, opened fire, and fled on foot.

Woman Pronounced Dead, Man in Fair Condition

Bell, who sustained a gunshot wound to the face, was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed she was the mother of nine children, a detail that underscores the devastating impact on her family and community.

The male victim was struck twice in the abdomen and once in the leg. He was also taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition as of early Friday.

Crime Scene and Investigation

Video from the scene showed at least 33 evidence markers, indicating multiple rounds were fired during the attack. Chicago police confirmed no arrests have been made and said Area Four detectives are leading the investigation.
