Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, isn’t one to forget a snub!
Reflecting on the early days of his client’s career, Roach revealed that despite Zendaya’s rise to fame, she has never worn designs from the “big five” fashion houses – Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, and Valentino – on the red carpet.
During an appearance on The Cutting Room Floor podcast, Roach recounted how he reached out to these prestigious brands when Zendaya was just starting out, only to be repeatedly turned down.
“I would write to the big five, and they would all say no,” he revealed. “She’s too green. She’s not on our calendar.”
Despite their initial rejection, Roach remained loyal to Zendaya, avoiding these brands even as her career soared.
“By the time she got to American Vogue in 2017, she still had never worn any of those designers. She still hasn’t,” he said.
While Zendaya has sported pieces from the big five in editorial shoots, she has never showcased them publicly.
Roach’s commitment to his client’s vision is evident in their partnership. Describing themselves as “fashion soul mates,” Roach explained their dynamic as a balance between his big ideas and Zendaya’s preference for simplicity.
“I write the script, and she does the rewrites,” he quipped.
Zendaya’s impeccable style was on full display at the recent Met Gala, solidifying her status as a fashion icon despite the snubs from the industry’s elite.
Roach’s steadfast support for Zendaya continues to make her mark on the fashion world, proving that rejection from the big names hasn’t hindered her rise to prominence.
