University of Mississippi Vice Chancellor Dr. Charlotte Pegues Announces Retirement Amid Ongoing Legal Case

by Gee NY

The University of Mississippi has announced the retirement of Dr. Charlotte Pegues, the institution’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

The university shared the news on Friday, stating that a national search will be conducted to find a replacement before the next academic year.

“Thank you to Dr. Pegues for her years of service,” said Provost Noel Wilkin in a statement to the university community.

Pegues’ retirement follows her indictment on multiple counts of animal cruelty last September. Authorities in Lafayette County reported finding dead and malnourished dogs at a residence linked to Pegues.

She was placed on leave by the university after the charges surfaced, though her attorney has denied any wrongdoing.

The status of the case remains unclear, and university officials did not comment on whether the legal matter played a role in her decision to retire.

As the University of Mississippi moves forward with its search for a new Vice Chancellor, Pegues’ legacy and legal proceedings remain under scrutiny.
