Comedian Wanda Sykes gave a sharp and humorous take on Donald Trump’s unexpected election victory during her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, balancing laughs with pointed observations on American politics and race.
Though hopeful for Kamala Harris, Sykes explained she wasn’t shocked when Trump took the win, saying:
“Sometimes America is just gonna America.”
When asked by Kimmel how she felt about the election outcome, Sykes delivered her signature candor:
“I’m a Black woman and a lesbian, how do you think I’m doin’?” she said. “It’s like, you get your hopes up, thinking you’ll move forward.”
Sykes hilariously suggested that the infamous Cheerio commercials featuring interracial families may have rattled some Americans.
“You scared the sh– outta white people,” she quipped. “Just sell the damn cereal, why you gotta bring us into this?”
Known for her bluntness, Sykes dismissed debates over why white women didn’t support Hillary Clinton, suggesting fans of The Bachelor shouldn’t be shocked.
“Women tear each other apart over a dude,” she laughed. “The Real Housewives, I mean, they do the same thing.” Shs stressed the futility of focusing blame, remarking, “It’s not really helping a lot.”
As Kimmel touched on Trump’s controversial views, Sykes zeroed in on his rhetoric around transgender issues, suggesting his attention was misdirected:
“You’re supposed to be fixing America’s problems, so you target a community that’s less than one percent of the population? Focus on climate change!”
Despite the turmoil, Sykes affirmed she’s not leaving the U.S. anytime soon. Her roots are deep, she noted, explaining:
“My ancestors got too much blood in this land.”
Her parting words? “Black women ain’t havin’ it right now. So don’t ask dumb questions, or you’ll get the sh– slapped out of you.”
