In a display of quick thinking and bravery, 5-year-old Zoey Reddick from Skokie, Illinois, was recognized by the local police department for helping save her mother’s life.
Zoey remained calm under pressure, calling 911 after her mom, Jessica Reddick, suddenly fainted due to seizure-like activity one evening in May.
That September night started like any other, with Jessica and Zoey picking out a movie to watch together after dinner.
But in an unexpected turn of events, Jessica collapsed.
Without hesitation, little Zoey sprang into action, dialing 911 and calmly relaying critical information to the dispatcher, including her mother’s condition and their home address.
“I was in total shock, like, ‘who called 911?'” Jessica recalled in an interview with ABC 7 Chicago. “And they’re like, ‘your daughter.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
Zoey’s calm demeanor and ability to give 100% accurate details to emergency responders stunned both her mother and the paramedics.
When asked how she managed to stay so composed, Zoey shared her secret:
“I took 10 deep breaths… so I calmed down.”
On Wednesday night, the Skokie Police Department honored Zoey for her heroism, recognizing that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.
Jessica, still overwhelmed with pride, added:
“I have a super Zoey.”
When asked about her bravery, Zoey’s response was simple yet profound:
“I’m grateful I have a mom. I have a blessed mom.”
