A woman has got a lot of explaining to do to her boyfriend after she revealed on TikTok that he has been paying all the rent and bills in the home they shared together — but that she has secretly been the landlord the entire time.
“So me & my name been living at this place for a year now,” text across the screen reads. “He pays the rent & all major bills,” she continues, “Little do he know I’m the landlord & the owned this place for five years now,” the clips goes on, adding, “So his direct deposits are going straight to me.”
She then captioned the post: “Do y’all think he’ll be mad once he finds out?”
The controversial video has been viewed more than 2.3 million times and has divided viewers.
“If you have to scheme like this to be with your man you’re sad. Obvy [sic] he’s a good man and doesn’t mind taking care of you. He gone as he finds out [sic],” one person wrote.
Someone else commented: “I couldn’t keep that kind of secret or break that type of trust with my person.”
“I just wanna understand the thought process behind this and why it was needed,” another replied.
“It’s not even the fact of him paying it, it’s the lying behind it. If he pays every other bill, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t mind paying a mortgage.”
It wasn’t all criticism.
“Y’all are acting like he’s wouldn’t have to pay bills on his own anyway. Get your coin boo!” one viewer wrote.
He sounds like a good man. He probably would not have minded continuing to pay all the bills even if she had told him. But relationships are supposed to be built on trust.
