Las Vegas Metropolitan Police has confirmed that a woman has died after being hit in the head with a rake, according to a Fox5 Vegas report.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to a call in late September after a 53-year-old woman was found unconscious. Marcia Averett had “obvious” trauma to the head and an approximate five-inch laceration on the right side of her temple area. The woman was taken to a local hospital and was intubated and treated for a skull fracture and brain bleed, according to police documents.
Averett’s husband said that prior to the incident, his wife was hit in the head with a rake. Upon arrival at the scene, police found blood and spoke with several witnesses who said that a Black woman riding around on a bike attacked her.
It is unclear whether the suspect had a motive.
Nearly three weeks after being hospitalized, Averett died at the Las Vegas University Medical Center. The day she died, the victim’s husband detailed that he had heard that the perpetrator is named Bianca and would frequent the area on her bike, police reports say.
Another witness tipped police stating that the victim Averett was collecting cans when a woman struck Averett in the head “several” times.
LVMPD finally found the suspect, named Bianca Robinson. She owned a bike matching the description of the bike in the attack and was living in an apartment nearby.
Upon questioning, Robinson said she would often ride her bike in the area where the incident happened but had no recollection of the incident taking place, according to a police report.
A neighbor told police that Robinson possibly suffers from psychiatric problems, the report further detailed.
Robinson was arrested and charged with battery but is now facing a murder charge. Her bail has been set at $500,000 and she is expected to appear in court December 5.
