Alicia Keys is a hot topic this week as she releases the audiobook and hardcover for her memoir, More Myself.
In the memoir, Keys details meeting Swizz Beats and the journey to their romance. They first met when they were teens, but at the time, Keys was uninterested in him romantically.
“We ended up in the same circles at various awards shows and industry events,” she writes in the book. “He’d usually pull up in some fancy car, rolling deep with his Bronx crew and shining with diamonds. I wanted nothing to do with that scene or with Swizz.”
“The more we talked the more I noticed how his mind worked. Beyond the baggy jeans and arm tats there was depth. He was so aware of what was happening around the world,” she gushed.
“I finally agreed to have lunch. I made a reservation for noon at an outdoor restaurant in downtown Manhattan. I arrived at twelve on the dot. Swizz was nowhere in sight. He finally came strutting in at 12:20. As much as I wanted to stay mad at Swizz he lifted the mood with a steady stream of humor and fascinating conversation,” Keys continued.
The rest was history. The couple were married in Corsica in 2010 and have remained deeply in love ever since.
“We don’t fight because we talk so much,” she told People magazine. “But he’s also so opinionated. Sometimes I’m like ‘I know that’s what you think, and I’m glad you know what you think, but you have to be conscious about how sometimes your opinion can be a little overbearing.”
In other news, Keys was announced as one of the performers for the Elton John-hosted Living Room Concert for America, along with Mariah Carey and several other high profile artists.
The concert will air commercial-free at 9 p.m. March 29 on Fox in place of the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
