A tragic accident in Shoreline, Washington, claimed the life of a 4-year-old African American girl on Oct. 13, 2024, after she fell from an apartment window while jumping on her bed.
The medical examiner confirmed that the child died from blunt force trauma sustained in the fall, according to Fox 13 Seatle.
Najaha Chancellor, the girl’s heartbroken mother, recounted the incident, explaining that one of her other children had opened the bedroom window, and the 4-year-old, playing nearby, bumped into it.
The window screen gave way, causing the little girl to fall.
“She was just jumping on her bed close to the window,” Chancellor shared. “The screen fell off, and she went down. I completely lost it.”
Chancellor, a single mother of four, expressed the profound loss her family feels, describing her daughter as a bright, loving soul who brought joy to everyone around her.
“She just made everyone happy. Everyone loved her,” Chancellor said, reflecting on the void left in their lives.
Determined to protect other families from suffering similar losses, Chancellor is raising awareness about the dangers of children falling from windows.
Sadly, these preventable accidents happen far too often, with thousands of children injured or killed from window falls each year.
