Dr. Bernice A. King, daughter of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and CEO of The King Center, delivered a powerful call for unity and compassion during her participation in The Future of the Beloved Community panel at the Global HOPE Forum.
Addressing the audience, Dr. King stressed the importance of adopting a “Beloved Community mindset”—a transformative approach that rejects division and cancel culture in favor of uplifting and empowering others.
“You don’t call people out; you call them up and then up,” Dr. King explained, highlighting the need to move beyond shaming and condemnation to foster understanding and encouragement.
A Beloved Community, as envisioned by her father, is a world grounded in justice, equity, and peace, where love serves as the guiding principle.
Dr. King’s message reinforced the idea that true social change begins with empathy, connection, and a shared commitment to humanity.
“Let’s reject the culture of division and cancelation,” Dr. King urged. “Instead, commit to calling each other in through understanding and up through encouragement. When love is at the center, the Beloved Community becomes a reality.”
Her inspiring message at the Global HOPE Forum serves as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to build a more equitable and peaceful world and challenges individuals to rise to a higher standard of collective humanity.
