Following Mariah Carey’s offhand criticism of Muni Long’s cover of “We Belong Together,” the “Hrs & Hrs” singer decided to respond in a shocking way.
Rather than resorting to a tweet or a subtle lyric, Muni Long took an unexpected route by hiring an oversized Mariah Carey impersonator to jab back.
The drama kicked off when Mariah Carey told GQ she dislikes it when people sing her songs. This comment quickly went viral, especially since Muni Long had just delivered that very classic at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
In a recent promotional video for her upcoming single “Delulu,” Muni Long released a mock audition clip featuring a character named “Miss MC.” The resemblance to Mariah is unmistakably intentional, perhaps even exaggerated. Miss MC storms into the audition with all the confidence of a superstar, attempting to hit those iconic Mariah high notes, albeit with questionable results. She then critiques everyone in the room, even going so far as to instruct Muni Long on how to perform her own song.
The clip concludes with Muni Long delivering a perfectly timed response to the impersonator: “I don’t like when other people sing my songs.”
Muni Long also wrote in the caption with: “THE DIVA!?!!!! My cute lil number? and maybe…I can come around to people singing my songs if THIS who singing it!”
And just when fans thought the fun was over, she followed up with a second skit. In this one, Muni feels like “that girl” because, in her mind, Mariah Carey just appeared at her rehearsal. Suddenly, the impersonator reappears like a whimsical spirit and declares, “I’m that girl, but we love everyone,” before comically pushing Muni off a ledge.
Muni Long’s caption for this skit? “AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! She could push me off every ledge in sight. THANK YOU!!! I LOVE HA!!! Now go stream #Delulu and show some respeck!”
Do you think Muni Long’s shade hit the right spot?
